Tree Testing

What is tree testing? It’s a process that we use to identify the severity of wood decay in trees. There are different methods used to carry out a tree test, The Camberley Tree Company recommend the use of a Picus® Sonic Tomograph test.

picus test

The Picus® Sonic Tomograph was developed by the company Argus Electronics GmbH, Germany. It is a device created to measure decay within trees. The device has been accepted worldwide as a leading method of near non destructive testing of trees. This instrument uses the velocity of sound waves to calculate the area of decay within a tree. These sound waves are activated from sensors placed around the tree which are connected to a Laptop.

When a test is completed, the result will show a two dimensional image (like the examples above), this is colour coded to clearly illustrate sound wood and the severity of decay in a cross section of timber. Some stem wounds can appear to be worse than they actually are, and with use of a Picus® test, we can quickly and easily provide you with peace of mind.
